The Keith Knost Special Needs Trust FundKeith Knost had a tragic accident on October 31st, 2000. He was traveling by car to his new job in Louisiana. Suddenly and without warning his car swerved across two lanes of traffic. It entered the median strip, went into oncoming traffic and began an 83-foot roll. The car came to a halt around a tree. The probable cause of the accident was mechanical failure. Keith's injuries were devastating. He was airlifted to a trauma center in nearby Chattanooga where he remained on the critical list for several weeks. He sustained a crushed right rib cage, punctured and collapsed lung, broken nose, several gashes, four broken vertebrae and a partially severed spinal cord. He is paralyzed from the chest down. After several months of recovery, he was airlifted to the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, New Jersey. He left there after about a year, and now lives at Manor Care in Mountainside, New Jersey, where he gets daily care for some lingering medical problems and pain management. Keith now continues the long, strenuous process of physical therapy and learning to live with and manage his paralysis.

The Keith Knost Special Needs Trust Fund Keith did not have insurance at the time of the accident so, as you can imagine, the cost of this to his family has been overwhelming. Naturally, Disability Insurance and Medicaid are available to him but this does not cover everything, so a Special Needs Trust Fund was established for him. This Trust Fund will help with the many expenses that are not covered by disability insurance or Medicaid. Such expenses will include ramps and other house modifications, special bed, wheel chairs, and a modified van (to name a few) when he finally leaves Manor Care and gets a place of his own. Keith and his family will be deeply grateful for any financial assistance to help Keith into his new and radically changed life. Checks should be made payable to Jan Knost - with "Keith Knost Trust" written on the memo line - and mailed to: Keith Knost Special Needs Trust | keith | makingcontact.com personal web sites home page |
